Everywhere you look you see someone talking or texting or browsing on a handheld device these days. Today, even within the office where these devices are taboo, the easiest way to get in touch with a client or customer is on their cell. If a great idea pops into your head and you need to Google a few things to get started, you don’t have to wait till you get back to the office or your den at home to get started. I envision business people waiting in line to board a plane while surfing my site for a Travel Certificate or Sales Incentive to use in a new promo idea that they just thought of. I don’t how you can be in the game any longer without a mobile web presence.
Let’s face it, computers are clearly getting smaller and smaller. The phenomenal success of Apple’s iPod, iPhone and iPad closely followed by Netbooks, Tablet PCs and 100’s of smart phones by Android and Windows makes it pretty obvious that mobile computing and communications are the way of the future. One day we will all look at our desktop computer the way we now see the wall phone of the 80’s. With user stats of our web sites pointing to an ever increasing number of visitors using mobile based browsers, I fell it’s time to move purposefully to accommodate this dramatically growing user segment.
Yes, the days of booting up and logging on are quickly falling away! Mobile web sites are a lot like the web sites we developed at the birth of the internet. They were small and we didn’t use a lot of graphics or code because they had to load quickly since we were all on a 54K dialup modem. I have to tell you, I like the new mobile web sites much better than the big production web sites that have become necessary to have your site be considered “cutting edge”. Mobile web sites are simple, easy to navigate and only contain the most relevant content. Now, I’m all for that.
